Life, The Universe, and Everything...

The not so nitty gritty details of my life.

Well, as my semester comes to an end, i am reflecting on what i have actually learned this semester. Perhaps much of what i have learned hasn't come from books or even lectures, but from other people around me. Things that i have found most useful are those who know how to study, and that I don't know what i don't know. I have to thank all of my friends, old and new for helping me survive not just one but, two whole semesters, and preparing me for many more to come. I know i have had much trouble in the past finding the inspiration to keep going in my educational studies, but those around me have finally helped me realize not just that i CAN do it, but i can enjoy doing it. Finding a major that i can enjoy also helps, but even that would be moot without the right people around me.

In other news, the Devil Rays are so far having a decent season. while still a few games below .500, they're keeping it neck and neck with the AL champion Yanks. It would appear that the teams to beat in the AL East this season are the Orioles and BoSox. Whod've ever thought, that the Sox could whoop up on the Yanks so much. Well it is still early in the season, so we'll just have to weather the storm, and see who ends up on top at the end.
And speaking of the Storm, whats up with them this season? They won the Arena Bowl last year, and the only major difference is that they got a new QB this season. The QB they had last year wasn't even that great, but i guess they decided that they could do worse....go figure. And in other football news, for the first time in my 6 years at the University of Florida, i finally got Gator Football tix. Its not so much that i tried any harder this season, its just that they started a new lottery system for them, and lazy people like me who don't want to spend 5 hours on hold over the telephone system can actually get them with minmal effort. Also, being registered as a full-time student really helps, but that should go without saying.
To finish up the sports section, we go to the NHL Playoffs. The, now, two time southeast division champs are well on their way to winning not only the eastern conference, but possibly even the Stanley Cup. If they can keep playing with the same intensity and desire that they have been playing with the entire season, they will not be stopped. And speaking of stopping things, that seems to be all that Nikolai Khabibulin is capable of. In the six games so far that the 'nings have played this post season, he's shut out the opposition four times, and gave up a total of 5 goals in the other two. The offense has been helping out a lot too. They've scored at least three goals in all but one game they played, winning each of those games. Well, if they don't make it to the finals, at least they turned into the team that they needed to be and have given it their all, and i'm proud of them.

On the technology front, some very interesting things have been happening. The FAA or whoever has finally been giving licenses to the X-Prize competition teams for launching and flying of their suborbital jet and rocket planes. I'm hoping that it will be won soon, and that perhaps some of the designs used will be put into commercial use in the near future to get people heading for space. Unfortunately i believe that the commercial sector is going to be the most responsible for getting civilians into space because nobody seems to want their tax dollars to go to space exploration anymore. I guess that most people don't realize that most of our current technology and innovations have come from trying to do just that, put people into space. Also space exploration could help solve many of the problems we face here on earth. Things such as recycling and reuse of our resources, fuel cells and alternative forms of lesser or non destructive energy, and ways to decrease overcrowding are just a few of the benefits we can expect from such research. But who am i to expect anything good from this world anyway?
It would appear that the good people out at Gaim have finally decided to start supporting video and voice conferencing in their software. While support right now is still in alpha phase and a bit difficult to get running, i know that they'll have it at least up to beta if not completely merged into the official releases within a few months. Finally my old webcam that WinXP decided that it would no longer work with will be able to be brought back from mothballs, and again serve the purpose for which it was acquired to begin with.
